Have you encountered any challenges when creating an urban-scale 3D model? How can you start a design proposal with an area that has no existing information, such as topography maps, aerial photos, and engineering data? This class focuses on workflows and tips and tricks that can enable you to better create, evaluate, and communicate conceptual designs using Autodesk InfraWorks, Autodesk® AutoCAD® Civil 3D®, and Autodesk® Revit® software. We also demonstrate the comparison of using Autodesk® Navisworks® software and Autodesk® BIM 360™ Glue® cloud-based software in various cases in order to choose the suitable workflow for your design.

Infraworks to civils via imx

3 coordinate systems. 
GIS LL84 or by model and the coordinate system as displayed. 

Do you have data yes or no?
What do you need. Terrain, ground imagery, transportation, water, buildings, city bodies and utility data. But what are you trying to get out of this?

USGS/national map. Preview available before. 
Footprint data kmz file. 
Data store. 
Sub folder for each data type including the name of the download site. 

Look for natural colour photography. 

When starting a project unclick define extents. This can be defined later. 
Click the globe to get a menu for coordinate systems. 
Model settings, define extent. Double click to finish the command. 

Terrain first. Photos next. Roads before buildings. 

Check use LOD and uncheck without boundary edge. 

Export to fbx to max and then import to infraworks. (High quality presentation)

To import rvt and citygml, must use internet and signed into infraworks using Autodesk 360 account. 

Analyse point clouds using themes 

Theme palettes. Visually classify assets according to attributes. (Roof heights)

Text and hyperlink – explore models and points of interest – proximity distance – storyboard. 

Line of sight simulation. 

Sun shadow study. Day or year. 

Scenarios = different videos. 

Autodesk meshmixer imports FBX and then save STL. 

In advanced settings use orentiaton and show camera live view in 360. 

Export out only as fbx or imx. Fbx for max, vred and navis. 
Imx allows exchange between civil and infraworks. 

There is a workaround in the handout for lost textures from infraworks. DDS convert to jpg. 

Collaboration : 
Have to use autodesk360
Scenarios can be downloaded into iPad. Integrated design feed into the model for instant comment. 
Publish from navis to bim360 glue and then back to navis.
