Tool types
Complete tools – all required functions

Design is a process.

MEP are interested in the spaces and voids between things.

Agencies, sizes and scales.

City scale analytics.

Programme analytics to look at peaks and troughs of expenditure.

Take the geometry away and expose the data allows you to look at the project in a completely new way.

Landscapes have an as built condition and a matured condition as they grow, unlike buildings.

Drawing it once with no doubling up.

Open source analysis tools. George Mokhtar

Planning = construction sequencing

Qs’s no longer measure but they extract data from objects. Round tripping data across applications can sometimes lose the data they use to measure. How does it get validated. Validation comes via people still and from the original package/source. Rigorous checking still required.

Costing analysis must be part of the execution plan. How challenges and solutions are approached. Look at how items are exported and compare to how they will be measured. List of items that the cost consultants need to make up for.

The process as well as the data needs to validated.

If you are not doing any sort of analysis using your models then you are missing out.

Homecamp using sensors to track building performance.

How is the analysis handed on to the execution team.

Deeper collaboration, unified design.

About Shaun Farrell

I have been involved in the construction sector since 1986 and over the years I have seen things change dramatically. Much of the change has been directly as a result of technology. This blog will be about the key combinations of People, Process and Technology. Any views expressed here are strictly my own.
