We are starting to ask the right questions. Starting to ask how.

Fit for purpose is relative and scares lawyers/insurers

How do we deliver BIM data. Cobie strips intelligence out. It will do for now but not the future.

How do we pass the data between applications.

Construction companies are unlikely to be able to make the required investments that Boeing did.

It takes nerve to see this through. We just have to stick with it.

You need to be very specific about what you want and when. AEC UK about to post some guidance on this topic. Geometry vs meta data.

Efficiency and re-risking.

Single collation of information. But with higher quality. Fit for purpose.

Our industry needs to come up with the goods to assist the client.

Distributed cognition. Taking things learnt in educations out into industry. How do we gather this knowledge and the share it.

Involving the “dirty boot” wearers.

Ireland has the chance to take everything done before, use it and leap ahead of everyone else. Industry doing it for themselves and then demonstrating to government that this is what we want to do.

About Shaun Farrell

I have been involved in the construction sector since 1986 and over the years I have seen things change dramatically. Much of the change has been directly as a result of technology. This blog will be about the key combinations of People, Process and Technology. Any views expressed here are strictly my own.
