#AU2012 #UKBimCrew LF5392-R Business Drivers: Convergence of BIM and Geospatial for Urban Buildings

So what is GIS, what is BIM, is GIS BIM, is BIM  GIS?

GIS has already been integrated into ERP systems but BIM has not been! It has been around longer and hence more entrenched.

GIS is a tree, BIM is a branch, data “IS” GIS, data holds it all together.

Building is not a noun, building is a verb.

GIS = “Get It Surveyed”

BigData

The generation in all areas of data where items are created in order to tell a story that invalidate the data by hacking the tool to generate story telling material.

Scales of data and filters on that data by the activity you wish to carry out. The possible data “cloud” where abstractions are generated on the fly from one central source of truth.

GIS is before design build and after design and build but rarely “during” design and build.

ESRI can not draw curves but segmented lines.

About Shaun Farrell

I have been involved in the construction sector since 1986 and over the years I have seen things change dramatically. Much of the change has been directly as a result of technology. This blog will be about the key combinations of People, Process and Technology. Any views expressed here are strictly my own.
