Great expectations

Managing expectations is one of the key elements of collaborative working. Quite often missed off agendas, execution plans and even briefs. What are your expectations of a collaborative project? Better coordination? If so, set that as a project goal/deliverable. Be transparent. If you can not be 100% coordinated then declare the items that will not be and more importantly why. This will enable you to start evaluating them and their value to the project. What things effect/affect expectations? Change is usually the key one. So indicate the effect of change on expectations of coordination, delivery, content and accuracy.

What are your expectations of consultants, performance, data quality, data delivery and content. All this is assumed rather than declared. Hiding things helps nobody in the long run so up front, transparent and honest is both refreshing and creates greater trust.

It sounds simple and obvious but managing your “great expectations” should be top of your list.
